Eight-year-old Virginia O’Hanlon has always loved Christmas. When a classmate asks “Is there a Santa Claus?” Virginia ventures into the city to find out for herself. A scraggly Santa, a kindly librarian, and even Virginia’s quirky father can’t give her a satisfactory answer. So, Virginia writes to Francis Church, the editor of The New York Sun. The answer she receives is one that will become the most famous newspaper editorial of all time.
