Beyond, part of the Pittsburgh International Festival of Firsts, in Downtown Pittsburgh

Travel without moving. Part of the Pittsburgh International Festival of Firsts, Beyond is an immersive installation merging sound and light into an unforgettable audio-visual experience.

Inside a long tunnel, with vanishing points on each side, geometrical lights and patterns cover the walls while smoke streams in from unknown points, and music fill your ears. The combination of these distorts your perspective, creating endless depth. It explores the relationship between time and space, and our consciousness of the two. The entire thing only takes about five minutes, but I felt like I was on drugs for the entire duration.

Beyond. Now through Nov. 11. Multiple times. Water Cube at Eighth Street and Penn Avenue, Downtown. trustarts.org

Created by Barcelona-based research studio Playmodes, this is the premiere of the installation in the United States. (Festival of firsts, get it?) The attraction is up until Nov. 11, and I highly recommend checking it out if you’re Downtown between now and then. Or make a special stop, it’s that
amazing.

Warning: smoke and strobe lights are used throughout the installation.
