Summary: Some country-music concert patrons leave a helluva mess behind. Reporter: Tara Edwards, WTAE Channel 4 Airtime: 2 minutes, 12 seconds on June 15 Visuals: * The headline, "Rowdy Crowd," including a map illustrating where the "North Shore" is. * A guy wearing beads, clutching a beer and blathering on about what a good time he's having. Highlights: * When Shannon Perrine begins, "Turning into an annual party, the Kenny Chesney summer tour lands at Heinz Field. Music, dancing, partying -- this year [includes] arrests, trash and trips to the hospital." * When Edwards, reporting live from outside the venue in the dark, reports, "Well, we're told that more than 50 people or about 50 people were treated for some type of injury, and more than 20 of them were taken to the hospital. A very busy day for EMS tonight." * When she narrates, "Pittsburgh Police [added] dozens of officers to patrol Heinz Field. From the amount of litter cluttered throughout the parking lots here, you can see many fans spent most of their day tailgating here and having a good time." * When a fan in her cowgirl hat gives her take: "I mean, it's a good time to tailgate and have a lot of fun, even though it's been raining most of the day, but we love each other ..." * When Edwards adds, "The partying [was] getting out of hand though, a little, though, at times. We're told that at least five people were taken to Allegheny County Jail. Several others receiving written citations mainly for disorderly conduct or public drunkenness. Officers tell us a few fights had to be broken up." * When EMS Chief Bob McCaughan states, "[B]y and large, the injuries were minor, a couple of people unconscious from assumed alcohol." * When McCaughan reasons, "You know, you try and be understanding and compassionate ... be professional. Some people push the envelope with the alcohol consumption and so forth." * When Edwards ends, "And the chief of EMS says this has been a busier night than most Steelers games. He says the humidity along with the alcohol played a huge factor in that." What We Learned: It's not the whiskey neat; it's the humidity. Unanswered Question: It was a very busy "day" for EMS tonight? News Value: 4. It's a real shame the city has to deploy so many resources because people don't know how to throw their trash in a frickin' garbage can or drink responsibly. It's even more of a shame when the TV crew proceeds to document it.
