Great White Shark film. Shark Week is nigh, so why not treat yourself to a huge shark on the Omnimax screen at the Carnegie Science Center? Beautiful — and educational. Screens daily. www.carnegiesciencecenter.org
Steel City Con. Once the little pop-culture con-that-could, this show has been growing steadily and now offers top-line convention guests. The Aug. 8-10 show, at the Monroeville Convention Center, features actress/director Penny Marshall, former Superman Dean Cain and '70s icon Billy Dee Williams, among others. www.steelcitycon.com
33 1/3 Series. Bloomsbury's 11-year-old run of small books on notable rock albums by diverse writers recently published its 100th installment. A favorite thus far is Murmur, J. Niimi's suitably chewy exploration of REM's crepuscular 1983 debut LP.

Fredo's Deli. A high-end sandwich shop in Dormont, with newly added racks of hard-to-find groceries from owner Mediha Cehic's native Bosnia and environs. For sandwiches, try the Sicilian. 1451 Potomac Ave.
Millvale Riverfront Trail. So close to the city, but so much like the woods — replete with houses for chimney swifts. The sound of traffic zipping by on nearby Route 28 keeps the urban vibe intact. Do look out for geese, though.
