Pop-punk standby Punchline's national tour won't be passing through Pittsburgh any time soon, but local fans will soon get a chance to hear these local heroes -- on the silver screen. The group's album 37 Everywhere was released earlier this year on Fueled By Ramen; now one of the songs from it, "Green Light," will be featured in National Lampoon's Van Wilder: The Rise of Taj. The soundtrack for this farce includes some decent bands, like The Starlight Mints and Brandtson, and also some, er, dubious company: Buckcherry (washed-up cock rockers until "Crazy Bitch" became a new greek anthem), and longstanding punchline Hanson. They say there's no such thing as bad publicity, but sometimes you gotta wonder. The soundtrack's out Nov. 21, and the film hits theaters Dec. 1.
Peter Divito's mammoth, Pittsburgh-based music zine 20/20 Proof always takes a while to materialize, but there's usually enough there to hold you over until the next issue. Issue 4, out this weekend, has a hip-hop theme (which was kinda inevitable, since Divito's DJ name is "P Divi"). The issue features profiles on the likes of Sadat X, Prince Po, J Zone, Sean Price and Wiz Khalifa. There's also the usual reviews and the always-hilarious feature "My Mother Hates Everything," in which Divito's mom gets her (very blunt) two cents in on current national releases. You can pick up a copy at the release party on Nov. 10 at Brillobox, which will be DJ'd by Divito and DJ Selecta.
The Halloween shows may be over, but the CD-release parties just keep coming. This month, two area emcees will release discs. On Nov. 11, Solid Ground Entertainment releases EMS' debut, The Devil's Advocate, Vol. 1, featuring Bricklayah, Proseed, Basick Sickness and other area artists. The release show, hosted by Basick Sickness, is at Hkan on the South Side. Later in the month at Hkan, Damien Voxx celebrates the release of his debut, Real Life Shit (200 Proof Endeavorz), with a party on Nov. 25. But before that, rising North Hills emcee and producer Scotty Coles will promote his latest full-length, Big Statements, with an appearance at Tequila Willy's in the Strip, on Nov. 17.
