Good people need to suck it up and wade thru the shit ... The alternative is? Democracy is messy ... We can't leave the process to the bottom feeders...

So, what happened to the Plan for Mellon's Orchard...Wasn't that supposed to develop a vision for the area?

    http://www.eastliberty.org/post/mellons-or…—-july-28th

The East Liberty Post has an initial community meeting last May and then a "Design Day" July 28th. Did it happen? Where are the results? Is this an example of high involvement high performance community planning process that the P4 conference spoused and most good planners and architects know is a basic requirement for the aspirations we hear about every day from the City.

What does the Planning Director think? Now the zoning change is slammed down the community's throat with no discussion, impact analysis, no visioning and no grass roots engagement. Will see a Walmart ("green" of course....) next?

What can one learn from their web site: not much....

Where is the expertise in urban mixed use retail?

So many questions, so few answers.

"Good enough is not Good enough" was the rallying cry from Mayor Peduto at the P4 conference; Every public official needs to take the time to read this and take time to understand make sure subsidies and incentives as well their bully pulpit are leveraged for better design. Oxford in particular must be called out. Trek and Mosites show that it can be done. Project proformas (cost per SF and public subsidies) can reveal much and need to be opened up to pressure better design. Of course hiring better architects and giving them the resources would help ;).

Mr. Burgess is practicing the same extremist rhetorical approach that the Birthers and other right wing extremists use. Shame on him. The overwhelming evidence across the country (and the planet) indicates that historic preservation contributes to the economic and social health of communities. By turning it into a racial issue he diminishes his leadership and that is unfortunate for him and the city.

    Re: “Productive Debate
"The plan put forth by Rob Pfaffmann (for example) where he can't make the math work"
How the hell do you know this Don? You have not seen the proposal or the numbers. It has not been publically review along with three other possible developers. You also dont have a clue as to the projects that I have worked on with local developers and civic clients. Your rant is full of falsehoods and innuendo.
