Bizarre circumstances at a law-enforcement conference leave the crack(ed) squad of Reno Sheriff's Department in charge of policing Miami. It's a whisper of a plot that essentially transplants the crew's typical hi-jinks -- inept detecting; dubious wardrobe choices; and ill-advised pursuit of hook-ups -- to a more exotic locale (such as Topless Beach). Director and co-writer Robert Ben Garant avoids that common TV-to-movie trap and doesn't attempt to create a bigger story. The film essentially follows the same black-out sketch format, with only marginally improved production values: There are bigger explosions, and one clever single-shot set piece at a cheap motel that finds the cops ... um ... settling in for the night. If you're already a fan of the Comedy Central deadpan mocu-drama (which I am), Miami will deliver the expected broad laughs, only with more nudity and unfettered R-rated language. What's not to love?
