There are so many ways to watch things these days, but watching a movie on the big screen is still the best form, so to help keep track of what's playing, every Friday, Pittsburgh City Paper will compile a round-up of new releases and second-run films playing around the city. This only covers films that are new to theaters this week; check out what movies opened last week.
The Manor Theatre
It Chapter Two
Directed by Andy Muschietti
The sequel to the 2017 film It, based on the Stephen King novel, It, which was previously made into a TV movie, called It in 1990. The sequel is set in the present day, 27 years after a group of kids first encountered a terrifying clown, when they encounter the clown again as adults.
Brittany Runs a Marathon
Directed by Paul Downs Colaizzo
Brittany (Jillian Bell) leads an unhealthy lifestyle with lots of drinking, sleeping late, and generally not having her shit together. She slowly gets into running, with the eventual goal of running the New York City Marathon. Bonus: director Colaizzo is a Pittsburgh native/Pitt grad.

Miles Davis: Birth of the Cool
Directed by Stanley Nelson
The documentary follows the life and music of the jazz legend and features interviews of musicians he influenced, including Herbie Hancock, The Roots, Carlos Santana, and more.

The Bad Batch
Directed by Ana Lily Amirpour
Set in a desert dystopia, the film follows a young (Suki Waterhouse) woman exiled to a society of cannibals (led by Jason Momoa). Keanu Reeves is also there.
The Farewell
Directed by Lulu Wang
When Billi’s (Awkwafina) grandma is diagnosed with late-stage cancer, she goes to visit her in China. The family, however, has decided to hide the illness from their matriarch, causing friction over generational and cultural differences about death. Read our review here.
The Last Black Man in San Francisco
Directed by Joe Talbot
Loosely based on the life of its star, Jimmie Fails, the movie grapples with a city’s changing landscape, and what happens when its lifelong residents are no longer welcome. Read our review here.

Directed by Olivia Wilde
Right before they graduate high school, two straight-laced teens (Beanie Feldstein and Kaitlyn Dever) realize they have to live it up while they still can. They embark on a wild night of parties, pizza, karaoke, drugs, and general chaos.
