Men in Black III

Rerun: Barry Sonnenfeld's comedy delivers the same story, but in a different year

Remember these guys, Agent K (Tommy Lee Jones) and Agent J (Will Smith), federal alien-control agents? They're back, after previous mismatched buddy-cop adventures in 1997 and 2002, and in the same dilemma: stopping aliens from taking over Earth.

The invading alien is Boris the Animal (Jemaine Clement), who is still angry about being arrested by Agent K in 1969. His plan: Escape, get a time machine, go back to 1969, kill Agent K and proceed with Earth takeover.

Grumpy Agent K, meanwhile, still doesn't see the humor in the variety of aliens secretly living on Earth. Viewers, though, will smile at Rick Baker's parade of goofy creatures.

Time travel is MiBIII's "fresh" gimmick, as Agent J goes to 1969 to prevent Boris from killing Agent K. We get a round of predictable jokes about hippies and out-dated cars, plus some logic holes exposed by the lack of truly funny scenes.

Best part about the past? Meeting a looser Agent K (right, Josh Brolin doing a great Tommy Lee Jones impression) and motormouth alien Griffin (left, Michael Stuhlbarg), whose visions of multiple futures save the day. Still, there's no shaking the present reality that you've seen all this before.
