Re “Bunker Mentality” [June 20]: Would someone on the City Paper editorial staff please tap John McIntire on the shoulder and ask him to please relent on the endless articles about Luke Ravenstahl? Johnny, enough is enough!
Redundant doesn’t begin to summarize what these pieces have devolved into. Rather than make legitimate criticisms, they have become one long-running “Opie” joke that wasn’t all that funny in the first place. The problem with one-trick-pony writing is that soon you end up beating a dead horse.
Who cares if those stuck-up jerkweeds at Oakmont didn’t invite Ravenstahl [to a U.S. Open preview event featuring Tiger Woods]? The bottom line is they should have. Even if you don’t respect the man, you respect the office enough to invite the mayor. And I’m sure Tiger Woods didn’t blame his [U.S. Open] collapse on the fact that he had to take three-and-a-half seconds to shake the hand of the highest-ranking official of the city he was visiting. I personally would have been more offended if [event organizers] had refused him.
I like the fact that the mayor got a little out of hand at a Stillers game. I much prefer a 27-year-old man who is not a sneeze away from death running when most of our sub-30 populace just runs when a better-paying job in another city comes a-calling.
John, anyone who hosted NightTalk shouldn’t be pointing out embarrassing incidents. The fact that you yourself agree that most Pittsburghers don’t seem as irked about how Ravenstahl got his job should be your first clue that perhaps the time has come to find something else to bitch about.
