Ever wonder how Game of Thrones’ creators came up with the Dothraki, High Valyrian and Trigedasleng languages? Despite how they sound, the hit show’s variety of distinct languages are not simply random gibberish. There’s an art behind them that stems from a knowledge of history and linguistic science. David Peterson, the linguist who created the languages for HBO’s Game of Thrones, will address how understanding the history of language helps to emulate realistic linguistic evolution.
