Darkroom Artist Reception

Darkroom is a story of reckoning with great loss. In the midst of an unforeseeable family trauma, Houston native, Gerardo Velasquez, found himself ill-equipped to grieve with the people around him. He began a series of paintings in 2015 to log his navigation through events that left him questioning his place in the world and the meaning of identity. Velasquez's Pittsburgh debut, Darkroom, will feature a series of paintings in which Abstract Expressionism is utilized to present tangible evidence of concrete life events. Reception & artist talk May 18, 7-10 p.m.
