Since releasing its first EP in 2010, Grouplove has earned some serious bragging rights. In a few short years, the band has toured with big names like Foster the People and Florence + the Machine, and reached No. 1 on the Billboard Alternative Songs chart with the single "Tongue Tied," from debut album Never Trust a Happy Song. Known for catchy hooks and an undeniably danceable indie-rock sound, Grouplove recently set out on a headlining tour. Catch the band tonight at Altar Bar; MS MR opens. For a while, RL Grime, a producer associated with trap — an electronic subgenre a few degrees removed from dubstep and more closely associated with hip hop — was anonymous, and was thought to be a rising star. Then RL Grime was outed as being one and the same as Clockwork, the already established DJ and producer who's worked with Dim Mak and Mad Decent. Regardless, under either name, he's a hot commodity, and who knows what kind of costume he'll come up with for tonight's AB Coffeehouse Halloween show at Carnegie Mellon. Even if you don't know Outasight, you know Outasight. His summer-fun jam "Tonight Is the Night," which went platinum, was in a Pepsi commercial, then was in an unavoidable Honda commercial, then was in a Pizza Hut commercial. The hip-hop/pop crossover phenom plays Stage AE tonight as part of the 96.1 KISS-FM Halloween Party; the headliner is Karmin, the duo you saw on SNL last season, with the woman who wears a lot of make-up and raps really fast and says "Cheeri-o," and her fiancé, the guy who stands there and might play a keyboard now and then. Walk Off the Earth is more than a cover band. Although these natives of Canada are probably best known for their "five-peeps-one-guitar" rendition of Gotye's "Somebody That I Used to Know" (which has accumulated more than 100 million views on YouTube and earned them a spot on The Ellen DeGeneres Show), the band has been making organic, back-to-basics indie-pop music since 2006.
