The wry lyricism and unfussy, smart guitar work of Courtney Barnett is infectious. After releasing a couple of EPs in the early 2010s, she broke out with her debut studio album sometimes i sit and think, and sometimes i just sit in 2015 and jumped onto year-end, must-watch-artists lists around the world. Those lists can be stupid and wrong, but Barnett is neither. The music is unpretentious and packed with droll, charming humor and smart songwriting. The new album, Tell Me How You Really Feel, is a wonderfully grungy follow-up to just sit (the opener "Hopelessness" is a brilliant slow-burning gem). She's touring behind that record now, coming to Stage AE with Waxahatchee.
