Special education consumes a massive portion of PPS's budget to serve a very small population. The idea that it shouldn't be on the chopping block as well is ludicrous.
Fitzgerald was on KDKA's Sunday morning talk show a year or so ago when he said -- hand to God -- that he opposed the reassessments because if the wealthy elderly residents of Squirrel Hill had to pay their fair share of taxes, they wouldn't leave as large an inheritance for their kids.
To see all these supposedly progressive organizations lining up behind him is nauseating.
"But if I was going to ascribe a cynical motive here, I'd assume this was a case of Burgess using legislation for dramatic purposes, as a way of highlighting his disagreements with rival council leaders."
On the other hand, Burgess was the only one who acted like an adult during the whole pension/parking debacle. If after months of dealing with Shielduto histrionics and Dowd's affectation (why is it that every goddamn time I turn on the city channel that man is saying "as a historian..." or "now, i'm just a historian..." or "I don't know numbers, I'm a historian..." Someone who never held a job in his field isn't a historian, he's just someone who studied history a decade ago.) he feels like lashing out a bit himself, I'm gonna cut the man some slack.
Why should he sit through another pointless council meeting just because the children on council propose yet another shitty, laughable so-called plan?
Seriously, I've always liked him, but I've never actually respected him until now. It's not a lack of engagement -- it's brinksmanship, and he's winning.

Snicker. That's *exactly* what the city needs -- more places where one is in danger of being attacked by unrestrained dogs.

Heh, I think I'm finally starting to warm to Fetterman.
Chris, you have the wrong link in there.
