Hollywood star Hedy Lamarr was known as the world's most beautiful woman. However, mid-20th century social norms and her striking looks made it difficult for Lamarr to be acknowledged as the ingenious inventor she was. While her covert communication system was invented during World War II to defeat the Nazis, it was only towards the end of her life that Hedy was recognized as a pioneer whose concepts were used as the basis for secure Wifi, GPS, and Bluetooth.
