Free music performances and an open art-studio session with holiday art sale highlight Carnegie Mellon’s Celebration of the Arts programming this Friday.

The music includes a pair of holiday concerts by the Carnegie Mellon Philharmonic and Choirs. The performances — featuring a medley of holiday tunes — are at noon in Rangos Hall, and at 8 p.m. at the College of Fine Arts.

Meanwhile, you can see what CMU art students are up to during the School of Art’s annual Open Studio Day, from 5-9 p.m. on the third and fourth floors of the College of Fine Art. The free event includes tours of student work, a holiday art sale, video screenings, performances and a reception. Don’t confine yourself to thinking “traditional art” here, of course: There’ll also be animation, comics, digital sculpture and hydroponics. And a game arcade is promised.

While on campus, you can also check out, free as usual, the current exhibit at the Miller Gallery, Imperfect Health: The Medicalization of Architecture. The gallery is located in the Purnell Center for the Arts.

In the very same big building, on that very same day, there are also two ticketed stage shows going on, courtesy of the School of Drama: Tony Kushner’s Angels in America, in the Philip Chosky Theater, and Eugene Ionesco’s Macbeth satire Macbett, in the Helen Wayne Rauh Studio Theater.
