The alter ego of drag queen Alistair McQueen was picked by City Paper readers as Best Bartender for this year.

McQueen had a plan to celebrate as Mildred the Lunch Lady during an announcement party. Guests were to bite into a winning chocolate or losing coconut cake.

It was lucky for the guests that Mildred claimed the crown.

Since earning multiple “Best Of” designations, Blue Moon (5115 Butler St., Lawrenceville) has been booming, and Mildred has had no shortage of hungry and thirsty new visitors. McQueen credits Pittsburgh’s loving and welcoming nature for allowing Mildred to blossom into the bartender she has become.

Mildred hopes to continue serving drinks and meals to everyone who arrives. Gone are the days of lunch ladies being stuck in the kitchen.
