The AWC Lab is a pop-up research center and weekend of public events to create, exchange, and celebrate with artists whose work affirms and projects the futures of people of African descent. Mayoral candidates Ingrid LaFleur (Detroit), Marita Garrett (Wilkinsburg), 1Hood CEO Celeste Smith, and filmmaker Alisha B. Wormsley lead an afrofuturist discussion on the roles an artist/educator, a curator turned politician, and a politician have in the building of our future cities. These women will discuss topics spanning the aesthetics of cities, access to education, transportation, and the water crisis augmented by clips from several films and video pieces
