A belated love-letter to New Kids on the Block
All grown up: New Kids on the Block

Dear Joey Joe,

Please forgive the delay of this letter. I was not literate enough to put my feelings into words 19 years ago, as I was 9 years old. Plus, I had no computer. But back then, while tucked into my NKOTB bed sheets, gazing at your poster on my wall, I'd hear you singing, "Please Don't Go, Girl" to me. And I just want you to know, I'd never go, Joey Joe. Never.

You've aged quite well. Actually, so have the rest of the boys. I remember when your sweet soprano voice turned tenor, and when your music videos started to lose the five smiley guys doing funky choreography and began gaining break-dancing club scenes with spandex-clad women. You grew up and I wasn't ready for it yet. How would we ever meet if I was still too young to get into those clubs?!

But now that you've really grown up, now that you and the rest of the guys have careers far beyond your pop-music past, I look at you and still see my very first crush. I saw you on this very stage in 1990 -- my very first concert ever. Do you remember me? And I'd just like to thank you for making the first music that I ever liked. I'd like to think that it if wasn't for you, I'd never have eventually discovered Morrissey.

I'll be loving you forever,

Cindy

P.S. Please tell Jordan that he was always my close second. XOXO.
