Yes, Werner Herzog is full of himself and seems to sincerely want someone teetering (and hopefully plummeting over) the edge at all times. But do not use that as reason to discount the perils of life in Antarctica. OK, it's not really perilous for most of those working there, but that is only because of the incredible effort that goes into making everything work safely. Take away the safety net and it is a most inhospitable place, whereas the Spanish Harlem, I figure, is inhospitable people. There's a difference. A side note: Werner interviewed me during his stay in McMurdo Station (by the way, with apologies to your friend, 10 days is not enough to judge the continent by) and kept trying to orchestrate my responses. I drew upon my limited theatrical background to try to give him what he thought he wanted but without changing my answers. Thus, since I was not wild and crazy, I'm sure I am not in the film. Oh, one other thing, the Aztec guy you referred to was a fairly good friend of mine, one to whom I did not get the chance to say farewell. Several weeks after Werner left, my friend had an accident while working outside. He was severely injured, recovered for some time in New Zealand and, last I heard, is still far from well, now some 18 months later. It could have happened in New Mexico, but it did happen in Antarctica.
