is throwing a battle of the bands this fall (open now) and you may be asking yourself: "why? Isn't that a little 90s? Isn't there enough war in this world?"
Simply put, City Paper
is interested in discovering all the talent that's flying under the radar in Pittsburgh. We know how hard it is to be a working band or musician in Pittsburgh, and we wanted to reward that work (you can check out all the prizes, qualifications and deadlines here
). The competition aspect is simply a device to deliver those rewards.
Really, Face The Music is just a show, a "musical revue" if you want to get fancy with it, featuring promising but under-appreciated artists and musicians in town. The only difference is it will end with a sizable prize for two winning artists, one selected by our judges and one selected by the crowd.
Anyone can submit. Any genre is accepted. Our only requirement is that you play original music and are actually an active band (which feels like a pretty low bar, frankly).
So if you're a Pittsburgh musician who might benefit from free studio time, bigger gigs, equipment and more, submitting to Face The Music seems like a safe bet.
We can't wait to hear from you. Deadline is Sept. 17.
