It’s years since people — including people who don’t necessarily see much theater, let alone musicals — have been this excited about a touring show.
And now Mormon, improbably, has swept the respectable critics’ awards, with nine Tonys, including best musical, a Grammy for the Broadway cast album, and many more.
No less than New York Times critic Ben Brantley has called this brainchild of South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone, with Avenue Q composer Robert Lopez, “the best musical of this century.”
At 9 a.m. this Friday, single tix go on sale for the national tour’s 16 performances at the Benedum Center, courtesy of PNC Broadway Across America. Tickets start at $36. Sell-outs are entirely possible.
