You know you've come across something worthwhile when the first lyrics you hear from a band are, “Pork chops, my girl tastes like pork chops.” Alright, so maybe it's not the most ground-breaking or inspirational thing you've heard all year, but it's what fans have come to know and love about The Two Man Gentlemen Band. As their name suggests, the duo consists of two gentlemen (Andy Bean and Fuller Condon) and their two instruments (a tenor guitar and upright bass, respectively). Together they've been making a special blend of country-swing and jazz worthy of a nice suit, stiff drink and a cigar for half a decade.

Their seventh album, Two At A Time, was released last March and can be loosely described as unique, with catchy songs about shoddy bartenders watering down all the best drinks in town and the perks of stealing your family’s prescription medicine. But its light-hearted lyrics aren’t the only unusual thing about the album. Bean and Condon financed the project entirely via the fan-based fundraising website Kickstarter. With their budget in place, they headed to a Pasadena, Calif. studio to record Two At A Time without any digital technology; no digital effects or edits — just 13 honest recordings from microphones and equipment dating back to the 1940s and '50s. Cool, right?

Catch The Gents at Thunderbird Café in Lawrenceville on Thursday (10/4) — the show starts at 9 p.m., and tickets are $8 in advance; $10 at the door. In the meantime, check out their interview with FF>> by clicking here, or listen to "Two At A Time" on their Bandcamp below.
