Wild Hogs

Four middle-aged dullards -- a dentist (Tim Allen), plumber (Martin Lawrence), lawyer (John Travolta) and computer programmer (William H. Macy) -- hit the blacktop on their weekend hogs for some open-road excitement in this tepid comedy from Walt Becker. There's the expected trouble when our gang of poseur motorcyclists run afoul of some "real" bikers, led by Ray Liotta (utterly unconvincing as a bad biker). There should be a moratorium on scared-guy-in-biker-bar scenes (much of this movie has the whiff of a big-budget lite-beer commercial). But what really made Hogs feel dated was the film's recurring homophobic freak-outs played for laughs. I don't know how the credible Macy ended up in this generic slapstick, but his dim-bulb nerd character is all that saves Hogs from a being a total yawn-inducing wipe-out. Starts Fri., March 2.
