    Matthew Falcone, President of Preservation Pittsburgh, will talk regarding the possibility of applying for a historic marker for Bishop Tanner (1835-1923). With roots in Pittsburgh, Tanner was a leading clergyman, author, and was editor from 1868-1884 of The Christian Recorder, the largest Black-owned newspaper in the country at the time. Tanner and his wife Sarah had four children, including Henry Ossawa Tanner, who was the first Black painter to gain international acclaim, as well as Halle Tanner Dillon Johnson, one of the first Black women physicians. 4122568755

    “Oneness: Brie Ruais”, the first in Contemporary Craft’s new Tomayko Solo Artist Elevation Series, is a solo exhibition featuring the work of ceramic artist Brie Ruais. The exhibition is a large survey of work, spanning eight years and exploring the idea that memory, place, and experience are based on an individual's perception and haptic experience. Each of Ruais' works start with clay equal to Ruais’ body weight at the time. From there, she uses her body as a tool to push and shape the clay into its final form, completing the work in under 15 minutes. 4122617003

Artists grapple with issues of movement and migration, displacement, the politics of remembering, and identity as neither here nor there, not one thing nor another, but simultaneously occurring at the same time.
