Pittsburgh's own Alaska is finding a good groove on Drag Race, bringing the funny.
This week's big challenge found all the queens cast in a ballet (!) based RuPaul's life. Alaska, who professed to having no dancing skills, did a lot of "oh no!" mugging during casting and rehearsals. She was assigned the role of Ru's mama, Ernestine, who among other real-life fierceness named her baby boy "RuPaul."
One of the guest judges was Chaz Bono, over whom Alaska swooned: "I live for Chaz Bono. Chaz Bono came out of Cher's vagina."
But Alaska acquitted herself well on the stage. In fact, the ballet was one of the show's more inspired challenges — not only was a hoot to see queens twirling to classical music, but most also had to portray RuPaul herself, making this performance fraught with pitfalls. (Turned out the worse role to be assigned was to portray Ru's idol, Miss Diana Ross.)
At judging, Alaska was safe in the middle and spared the shocking conclusion — OK, it wasn't really, but the queens hammed it up for all it was worth.
