After former Pennsylvania state Sen. Matt Smith announced he was stepping down to take a position with the Greater Pittsburgh Chamber of Commerce, the Allegheny County Republican and Democratic committees scrambled to select candidates for his replacement. Now, Democratic nominee Heather Arnet will face off against Republican Guy Reschenthaler in a special election for Smith’s 37th district seat.
