Tonight, the local music-culture community gets a new resource as the Center for Iranian Music opens at Carnegie Mellon University. The Center, headed up by CMU professor Reza Vali, will serve as part of the College of Fine Arts, promoting the study of Iranian music at the university and establishing a library of work related to Iranian music. Tonight's event, at the Kresge Theater in the College of Fine Arts building, is a concert tribute to Dariush Saghafi, an Iranian musician and member of the advisory board of the CFIM. The concert is $10 for students and $20 for the rest of us; more info here.
