Pittsburgh Public Schools to host "state of the district"

Posted By on Mon, Nov 12, 2012 at 5:44 PM

Pittsburgh Public Schools will hold for the first time a "State of the District" community meeting on Thursday.

Superintendent Dr. Linda Lane will share the district's progress and future direction, while going over finance and enrollment, achievement, effectiveness, equity and satisfaction. And there's much to discuss; earlier today, education advocacy group A+ Schools released its annual report showing the district had declined in several areas.

There will be a community discussion with parent, teachers and community leaders after Lane's presentation with a Q&A with audience members. Panelists include: Pedro Noguera, Ph. D., Peter L. Agnew Professor of Education, New York University; Saleem Ghubril, Executive Director, The Pittsburgh Promise; Kiley Krizan, Teacher & Learning Environment Specialist, Pittsburgh Perry; Pam Little-Poole, Parent of Pittsburgh Public Schools Students

The community is encouraged to watch the event live here, where people can join the conversation and “tweet” their comments and questions to @PPSNews #PPSProgress.

A reception will be held at 5:30, with the event starting at 6 p.m., at Pittsburgh CAPA 6-12 Auditorium, 111 Ninth Street, Ft. Duquesne Blvd. Entrance, Downtown.
