Tomorrow's Jazz Poetry Concert Moved Indoors

Posted By on Fri, Sep 7, 2012 at 11:08 AM

Just got word from organizer Henry Reese that due to a forecast of rain and wind, City of Asylum/Pittsburgh's popular annual Jazz Poetry concert will take place indoors, at the New Hazlett Theater.
The free concert traditionally is held outdoors, on nearby Sampsonia Way, but weather often forces the move indoors.
The change means you're advised to arrive early if you want a seat: When held outdoors, the concert draws 500 spectators or more, but the Hazlett holds only a little more than 300 for concerts. A bunch of folks didn't make it inside for last year's show.
Tomorrow's show features Meshell Ndegeocello, the Oliver Lake Steel Quartet, performance poet Patricia Smith and exiled writers currently and formerly sheltered by COAP. The start time is 7:45. If I had to guess, I'd say getting there at 7 p.m. wouldn't be too early to ensure entry.
And if you can't make it in, the concert will be live-webcast on COAP's Livestream channel.
